One advantage of anonymous names is that people feel free to say what they really think.
In the case of a controversial subject this makes all the difference between keeping silent or contributing to the discussion.

What have you all been reading this summer? I've enjoyed Dreams from My Father by Barack Obama. It's great to have a US president with such varied experiences of life. Yes the Obama book is excellent. I've just finished "Do Polar Bears get lonely?", it is the latest in the series of books...
