Natural Samadhi

We took a new look at this somewhat neglected area of H.H.'s teaching. One member of the group had commented that our previous week's meeting focussed on the 'highlands' and that it would be helpful if sometimes we could also cover some practical ideas in the 'lowlands'. In response to this, the pap...

Emptiness

We followed the proposed new format for Cheltenham group meetings (see here ), with the exception that readings were not repeated. The additional quotations in the attached paper were not used in the meeting, but have been retained in case they are helpful to forum users. Emptiness.doc This week’s p...

A new approach to meetings

A few weeks ago a member of our group (who is a musician) sent round the attached paper. We have now started to experiment with this approach and several of us have found it helpful. It includes chanting, which may not be possible for some groups, as it requires a musically competent leader. However...

Material on Stillness

I didn't attend this meeting and there are no notes (unless someone else who did attend can supply them). But forum users might find the attached material helpful.

"The Problem of Evil" and "What is really going on"

Cheltenham Group meeting 31/3/2011 We started the meeting with the paper “The Problem of Evil”, initially reading the first half page. 20110228 The Problem of Evil.doc Comments were: ⋅ There is no evil. There are tsunamis and aeroplane crashes but these are not evil. They are just part of...

Clouds 10/3/2011

Following on from the discussion about hindrances last week, our group taker chose this paper from the Pewsey Group: Paper_09_17.pdf The group liked the metaphor of clouds hiding the sun, and the idea of the sunlight dissolving the clouds. We returned yet again to the idea of not being able to do an...

Re: "What is Real I?" 3/3/2011

Following the meeting, and the difficulty of whether or not we have choice, it occurred to me that perhaps we should be more pragmatic about it. Whenever we think we have a choice, we should make a choice. Attention, listening, being still and just watching seem like good options. Clinging to the id...

"What is Real I?" 3/3/2011

Reading before meditation: Sincerity in Meditation.doc After meditation, there was some discussion about part of the quotation from H.H. that we had read beforehand: ... people sometimes meditate for the sake of meditation …. Such meditation is no meditation. It is a waste of time. One person said s...

FCR paper from 16/2/1981

Cheltenham Group Meeting report 17/2/2011 Our meeting taker brought this paper from a meeting taken by Dr Roles almost exactly 30 years ago. 1981_4.pdf Group members agreed that the content was just as relevant to us today. It resulted in a particularly sattvic and quiet meeting with an unusual deg...

Re: Our Relationship with the Shankaracharya 27/01/11

Fiona asked me to upload the paper, which is attached. Reconnection v3-1.doc Initially I felt somewhat sad and lonely listening to the responses at the meeting to the question "Do we, individually, feel we have everything we need": ⋅ "Yes. We can't do anything, it just happe...
