Summer reading

Postby Rumpelteazer » Sat Aug 29, 2009 7:58 pm

What have you all been reading this summer? I've enjoyed Dreams from My Father by Barack Obama. It's great to have a US president with such varied experiences of life.

I'm currently reading Notes from the Pianist's Bench by Boris Berman. The main problem I have with this is that I only read in bed so I don't get to try out his examples on the piano.

Yes the Obama book is excellent.

I've just finished "Do Polar Bears get lonely?", it is the latest in the series of books from the New Scientist.

I recommend Karen Armstrong's "The case for God".

Karen understands the meaning of God as unknowable. And how the last 2000 years have diminished this. And why we need to re-capture this.

I'd like to read the Karen Armstrong. Is there a copy in the Colet House library do you think?

In relation to the correspondence on summer reading, a copy of Karen Armstrong's book "The Case for God" has been ordered for the library as well as "A short history of Myth" by the same author.
Hopefully these should be available by the end of the month :)
