Cheltenham Group Meeting 3/12/09 - Unity III

Postby fiona » Fri Dec 04, 2009 1:57 pm

Last night, we studied Unity III, the paper from the New York group, giving attention first to H.H.'s reference to the six qualities: desire ... anger ... regard (for something or person) ... desire to accumulate ... pride ... relating things to others.
We talked about opinions (in connection with relating things to others) and discussed their range - how they might be employed simply to try to influence others or, when they are considered, how they may come closer to the truth. After further discussion on the six qualities, with reference to anger and the gunas, our group taker for the evening summed this part up by suggesting it is all about refining ourselves. We then moved on, focussing on H.H.'s reference to three points: how we should love to speak the truth, cultivate the love of people and be magnanimous in our dealings with others. Someone raised the question - how do we know when we are consistently speaking the truth? An answer came: if we are awake, then we can give what's needed, especially in regard to speaking the truth. We focussed on personal examples, of how a manager or a teacher, or another with responsibility for assessment of others, may bring enlightenment rather than induce emotional negativity. We felt that these three points can surely come together and that the opening of the heart is so important. So much of what we do is reacting, when what we need to do is purify our motives. Our group taker suggested that we should build a place within ourselves - a place of surety.
